Zim Hip Hop has been a leading genre in Zimbabwe for the past two years, as a result this has seen the rise of a number of rappers or MCs depending on your definition. Each end of year we rank our Top Ten Zimbabwean Rappers according to presence, body of work, reach & content. As for 2022 here are some of the rappers that truly held it down for the culture.

1. VOLTZ JT

Well we won’t lie it was either Voltz Jt or Holy Ten but Voltz JT has had a triumphant year. From bagging a Emtee Feature nearly every song of his came with a number 1 trending video. His presence visually and his body of work “Life Of Muvhimi” definitely made sure he gripped 2022 with full force.

2. HOLY TEN

Well Holy Ten has held the Top Two sports on our list for the past three years, a true reflection on his presence and reach. Continuing to break records and becoming Zim Hip Hop’s most streamed artist of all time he has surely earned all the respect he can get

3. SAINT FLOEW

Well a man with a song that is arguably the song of the year next to “Fire Emoji” of course. The “Silas Mavende” hit maker has had a outstanding run in 2022 establishing himself as a permanent fixture in any conversation about Zim Hip Hop.

4. R PEELS

Well he made a 45 track Album and the rest is history.

5. TANTO WAVIE

What can we say about “Fawunda” who to some he might not be a rapper “but define a rapper?”. He definitely owned 2022 with his brilliant body’s of work in “Amasungura” & “Sungura Museve” couple that with a few visuals and touring then you have a run a few rappers have touched their whole careers.

6. SCRIP MULA

Mula Nation’s front runner definitely had something to say this year after a long hiatus. He gave Zim Hip Hop one of its most brilliant body of works in terms of production in “Scrippian 2“. He has had a brilliant run with his definite break out track “Chipo”.

7. LUMINOUS

Zim Hip Hop’s front runner in terms of performances has had an outstanding year without a doubt, making sure his presence is felt on every major stage in Zimbabwe and even regionally leading him to strike a Zakwe co-sign. His EP “Love, Sex & Gospel” embodied a solid outlook on life and it’s contradictions.

8. BRIAN JECK

If you told anyone that a group rappers from Chegutu will disrupt the game in 2022, they would have thought that’s a mystery. Brian Jeck played an instrumental part in propelling the massive hit “Fire Emoji” towards mainstream success, his body of work unicorn is definitely a very solid album and came with a number of surprises.

9. KIKKY BADASS X CROOGER

Kikky Badass & Crooger aka 40 Gang are a duo too hard not to mention in Zim Hip Hop regarding the fact that they make this list every year. Their reach and presence is definitely huge they both didn’t have a body of work though “Blood Line” carried us on to 2022 and Crooger had a perfect feature run.

10. SYNIK

Synik is a Zimbabwean Rapper based in Portugal, who surely had a major comeback in 2022 after dropping his sophomore album “A Travel Guide For The Broken”, pair this with having a decent presence both in Zimbabwe and Portugal then you have a rapper that had a outstanding year.
