Greatest Zimbabwean Music Producers

Zimbabwean music has been influenced by different sounds. Different people from different backgrounds have shaped Zimbabwean urban music. While everybody is fascinated by the artists who perform the music, there are people behind the scenes. Music producers are often the most underrated artists or musicians. They are the ones who understand sound. They create beats that they know will entice the listening audience. Without music producers, perhaps we wouldn’t have a rich history in Zimbabwean music and memories. Check out the list of the 10 Greatest Zimbabwean Music Producers in 2021

1.Oskid(Prince Tapfuma)

Oskid real name Prince Tapfuma is Zimbabwe Dancehall producer popularly known for producing Winky D’s successful Gafa Life album in 2015. Until october 30 2015, Oskid worked with Ke Nako Musik. He founded his own record label which he produces under his label called Oskid Production. Oskid has also worked with other popular musicians such as Killer T, Fungisai Zvakavapano, Celscius, ExQ, Seh Calaz and Roki.

2.Levelz(Rodger Tafadzwa Kadzimwe)

Levelz is a Zimbabwean entrepreneur, music producer and one of the cofounders of the Chill Spot Records music label and stable. He is well known in the Zimdancehall genre for his music productions.

Levelz has produced albums for many Zimdancehall Artists, including Winky D, Sniper Storm, Soul Jah Love, Seh Calaz, Freeman, and Tocky Vibes He is credited as a key figure in the popularisation of the Zimdancehall genre in Zimbabwe. He has produced more than five riddims such as Silent Killer Riddim which featured the Jamaican Artist Kalado. His 2013 Riddim The Zimbo Flavour , released under Chill Spot Records, led him to become one of the best Zimbabwean producers of 2013 and to win a Zimdancehall Award for the best Riddim “Zimbo Flavour”.

3.Tamuka Mponda-Makuluni

DJ Tamuka is a Zimbabwean music producer who has produced hit songs for EX-Q, Ammara Brown, and Enzo Ishall among others. He is Military Touch Movement’s in house producer.

DJ Tamuka started music after his O’level studies in 2006 and is a self-taught producer. He started off making beats on Fruit Loops at a studio in Mkoba 3. In 2007 he started deejaying at bars in Gweru until he met Daddy K (Farai Kanengoni) in 2009 and then started deejaying at a more professional level in top clubs in Gweru.

4.Audius Mtawarira

Before Brian Soko won Grammys or T Collar, or Pip Kembo were making in waves internationally, there was Audius Mtawarira. The international based R&B singer-songwriter/producer worked with several names He is a multi-ARIA Award winner and has written and produced for international artistes such as Selwyn, Aussie singer Delta Goodrem, Australian Idol contestant Paulini, fellow contestant Ricki-Lee Coulter, Levi, Shakaya, Rahsaan Patterson, and Stan Walker, among many. He continues to receive accolades locally and internationally for his works. He continues to work with younger artists including the likes of ShaSha whom he mentors. Audius waves the Zimbabwean flag high and paved the way for other Zimbabweans on the international scene.

5.Jamal & Leekay(NO LIMITS)

No Limits Entertainment (NLE) is a music record label that is pioneered by the dreams of passionate artists working to get their music out to the world…Founded by Jamal and leekay

These two producers know the modern and contemporary sound which makes them the New School producers. Their tag team was superb songs like Winner by Nutty O, Handizi Tsaga by Natasha Muz and Shore by Ishan to mention just a few were made by these two supreme producers.

The two now own separate studios but their sound and music projects all all over and making a huge impact. Leekay is currently riding on fame as he has produced some of the biggest songs this year including Poptain’s Munhu Wenyama and the collaboration of the moment by Anita Jackson and Jah Master titled Unonzani. Jamal recently produced the Nash Tv riddim which is doing well.

6.Cymplex(Simbarashe Moyo)

Cymplex is a Zimbabwean music producer. Cymplex co-founded Cymplex Music Productions with Blessing “Krispi” Madziwana.

He started music in 2014 as a producer recording vocals.

Cymplex honed his music production skills at Solid Records Studio.

7.Chiweddar(Daniel Kudakwashe Chiweda (jnr))

Daniel Kudakwashe Chiweda (jnr) better known as Chiweddar (born 31 May) is a Zimbabwean record producer, multi-instrumentalist, and freshman to the industry who has gained recognition in a short space of time and already worked with most of Zimbabwe’s top artists, with a couple of chart-topping songs.

The pastor’s kid born in a family of musicians, was enrolled by his parents at the Bulawayo Music Academy where he mastered his skills in playing instruments which include piano, keyboard, drums, bass and lead guitar.

He has played for several artists amongst them, award-winning choir, Zimpraise.

Chiweddar is both a live and digital producer, mix and mastering engineer, running on Logic Pro X who works alongside Dj Tamuka at JP studios and is also part of the Military touch Movement.

8.Take Fizzo

Tatenda Jenami, formerly known as Take Five but these days is Take Fizzo, took urban music ‘to a whole new level back in the early 2000s. With the success of two compilation albums under the “urban grooves” umbrella, Chamhembe Volume 1 and Chamhembe Plus, Take Fizzo is an amazing producer. He remains relevant to this day as he continues to produce for a newer breed of Zimbabwean artists. THe is alos part of the asward winning hip hop trio Few Kings alongside Tehn and Jnr Brown. The multi-faceted musician and producer has produced for M’afriq, Roki, Xtra Large, Tererai Mugwadi, Stunner, Taurai Mandebvu, Nembo Bhway, 2BG, Nox, Diana Samkange, Wreckless, 3rinity, Maskiri, Jay Boss, Dizzy Don, Ammara Brown and many more. The ability to push boundaries with local Zimbabwean music makes Take Fizzo one of thesong.

Sometimes the producer is also a writer and composer of the song.

9.Jusa Dementor(Tawanda Sibotshiwe)

Jusa Dementor is an award winning Zimbabwean born music producer and musician based in the United Kingdom. He has worked with prominent local and international artists such Red Rat, Beenie Man, Tuface, Winky D, Vybz Kartel, Lady Saw and Dizzy Dee just to mention a few. He is also the founder of ABBRA TRIBE which strives to promote self-belief, unity and creative entrepreneurship among Zimbabweans.

10.T Man(Mount Zion)

Mount Zion Records is a local recording company which is mainly involved with Zimdancehall Artists. One of their most popular riddims which was performed by various artists was the Zion Tals Riddim
